Part-Time Library Clerk

Van Buren District Library – Covert Branch Location

Van Buren District Library is seeking a friendly, dependable, and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Library Clerk . This position supports daily library operations and helps create a welcoming, engaging environment for patrons of all ages.

Position Summary

The Library Clerk assists with circulation services, shelving materials, supporting library programs, and helping patrons use library resources. This role requires someone who can work independently after training while maintaining a high level of customer service.

This is a part-time position (18-20 hours per week) and includes some evening and Saturday hours .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service at the library circulation desk
• Check library materials in and out using the library system
• Assist patrons with basic reference questions and reader advisory
• Help patrons access computers, printers, and digital resources
• Assist staff with library programs, classes, and community events
• Shelve books, DVDs, magazines, and other materials accurately
• Perform shelf reading to maintain proper organization
• Help maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized library environment
• Assist with basic repair and mending of library materials
• Support additional branch operations as assigned by the Branch Manager

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work well with the public and as part of a team
• Comfortable using computers, email, internet resources, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to learn library procedures and circulation systems
• Reliable and able to work evening and Saturday shifts

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Ability to bend, reach, twist, and stand for periods of time
• Ability to shelve materials up to 90 inches high

Pay & Schedule

• $16.56 per hour starting wage
• 18-20 hours per week
• Some evening and Saturday hours required
