The North Carolina Department of Labor is charged by statute with promoting the health safety and general well-being of the workers in the state. The laws and programs the Department administers affect every worker in the state. The Department is organized into three primary divisions which carry out the Departments principle regulatory enforcement and promotional programs and the administrative operations. The three primary divisions have divisions bureaus and offices under each which carry out the specific and specialized portions of the NCDOL mission. The Investigator I is responsible for achieving compliance of the Wage and Hour Act E-Verify Act Controlled Substance Examination Regulation Act Expunction of Records Act Private Personnel Service Act and Job Listing Service Act by employers. Investigations are conducted either in office and or on-site at the business location. Driving both a state and or privately owned vehicle is required; therefore so is a current valid driver license. All investigations shall include audits of time and payroll records employment policies and practices relating to payment of promised wages jobs and hours worked for minors and other procedural compliance with E-Verify CSERA Expunction and PPS/JLS Acts. Investigators shall interview employers employees or other witnesses to verify the accuracy of records policies and other information obtained during an investigation. The investigator will make decisions as to compliance or violations; compute wages when due negotiating for back wages due and ensuing violations are corrected. Investigators shall prepare a computer-generated report that explains the findings in each case. This report shall include supporting witness statements and other documentary evidence. If back wages or penalties are not paid; the investigator will work with a supervisor the Legal Affairs Division and the Attorney Generals Office to litigate the case as applicable. Investigator(s) shall act as a consultant to employers employees and other citizens to assist in the voluntary compliance with the various laws. The Investigator shall develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of state and federal wage as they pertain and hour laws and regulations and a general knowledge of the scope and function of other agencies enforcing employment-related laws. The Investigator I shall make oral presentations to the general public when requested on applicable laws as assigned and shall perform other duties not covered that are directed orally or in writing by those within the management structure.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Bachelors degree in business accounting or law enforcement from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in work that provides considerable understanding of wage and hour laws or work involving the application of advanced investigative techniques auditing case management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.EEO Statement
