Job Description

Hydrogeologist Group Leader - Environmental Consulting (Multi-Office, US)

Overview

I am partnering confidentially with a well-established, employee-owned environmental consulting firm seeking a Hydrogeologist Group Leader to provide national technical leadership across a growing hydrogeologic practice. This is a senior-level opportunity combining technical excellence, leadership, and strategic influence.

The Role

This position serves as the organization's senior subject matter expert for hydrogeology, with responsibility for setting standards, tools, and best practices while ensuring consistent execution and quality across projects nationwide. The role includes both hands-on technical leadership and practice leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish hydrogeologic standards, priorities, and performance metrics
  • Serve as technical decision authority for hydrogeologic methods, modeling approaches, and tools
  • Lead development of training programs and mentoring initiatives
  • Provide senior technical oversight, peer review, and quality control
  • Lead complex site investigations, including drilling, aquifer testing, geophysics, and well installation
  • Develop conceptual site models and perform groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport evaluations
  • Apply advanced analytical and numerical groundwater models to support remediation strategies
  • Oversee field activities with a strong focus on health, safety, and operational efficiency
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies as a senior technical authority
  • Support remediation optimization, long-term monitoring, and litigation support as required
  • Travel up to approximately 30%

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Hydrology, Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of professional experience, ideally within environmental consulting
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Strong background in hydrogeologic site characterization, groundwater modeling, and remediation
  • Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and state regulatory programs
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
  • Experience with modeling tools such as MODFLOW, MT3D, EVS, VISTAS, or similar
  • Familiarity with GIS applications
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification

Location

This is not a remote position. The role is open to candidates based in multiple offices across the East Coast, Southeast, Midwest, and Central United States, with final location aligned to candidate experience and business needs.

Why Consider This Opportunity

  • Employee-owned organization with long-term wealth-building potential
  • National leadership role with influence over technical standards and practice direction
  • High-impact environmental projects and a strong technical culture
